South African Airways to operate direct flights from Johannesburg to Gan, Maldives.

South African Airlines (SAA) will commence direct flights from Johannesburg to Gan, Maldives. SAA will be the first long hall international carrier to fly to Gan International Airport in the Maldives. SAA flights are scheduled to begin 24th November and will offer Business and Economy class on Airbus A340s. The flying time to the idyllic destination will be reduced from 16 hours via middle Middle East to just a seven-hour flight from Johannesburg directly into Maldives. Departures are scheduled for 23h30 on a Saturday and arrival at Gan International Airport at 08h00 on a Sunday morning, making it ideal for honeymooners and convenient for holidaymakers.

This is an exclusive chartered flight agreement between SAA and Core Travel TA as ATA. Last year over 9000 tourists from South Africa visited Maldives. Arrangements are made for Maldivian national carrier and TMA seaplanes to carry passengers to the resorts in nearby Huvadhoo atoll. The airline is expected to start direct flights from Hong Kong to Gan, Maldives by January 2019.
